Voiceover localization to Brazilian Portuguese

When I’m working with localization in voiceover, I’m often sent references in other languages and asked to reproduce the same style in Brazilian Portuguese. The reference is incredibly helpful to understand the tone, intention, and pacing the client wants — but it’s important to remember that this is still a creative process.

“Cheerful” in Brazil isn’t the same as “cheerful” in the UK, and this applies to every emotion. Cultural expression, rhythm, humor, and even how “natural” a read should sound vary a lot from country to country.

Our job is to understand what the original reference conveys in its own culture and translate that feeling into ours, respecting the tendencies and expectations of the Brazilian market.

Localization is still deeply human — and beautifully creative. 🎙️✨
